The studies of technical viability, economic and environmental to the construction of the Pantanal Railroad will end later this month. The Ministry of Transport announced that the works should start in July.
The Pantanal Railroad is an extension of the Norte-Sul railway. According to the project, the railway enters in Mato Grosso do Sul by Aparecida do Taboado and reaches Porto Murtinho, through Brasilandia, Bataguassu, Nova Andradina, Maracaju and Dourados, totaling 750 kilometers.
The project is responsability of Valec Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias S/A, public company controlled by the Federal Government under the Ministry of Transport.
According to the state deputy Laerte Tetila, the construction of the railway will change the size of the municipalities of south-central region of the state and will be of great importance to the economy of Mato Grosso do Sul.
