A report published by Correio do Estado, in the section of Ecology, yesterday, November 8, 2011, talks about a Ph.D. in ecology that supports tapirs, animals of importance in the balance of the ecosystem.
Written by Bruna Lucianer, the journalist tells about the forestry enginner Patricia Medici, a doctorate in ecology and conservation from the University of Kent, England. Medici is dedicated to the study of Brazilian tapir for over 15 years.
According to the report, after 12 years of research in the Atlantic, the doctor is living in Mato Grosso do Sul since 2008, where she studied the habits and biological characteristics of tapirs, also called "gardeners of the forest", the Pantanal, at fazenda Baia das Pedras.
The information obtained, analyzed and cataloged will result in an Action Plan for Tapir Conservation in the Pantanal, work that has already been accomplished in the Atlantic. There will be about 3 years of research in the Pantanal.
